Yesterday, the 23rd of November, the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Peters Omaruaye paid a courtesy visit to retired superintendent of Police, SP Omovudu, a political and community leader in Sapele local government area. Omaruaye was accompanied by party leaders and supporters from across the senatorial district.
Speaking during the visit Omovudu thanked Omaruaye for his sense of leadership, and his determination in keeping with the struggle “to see that Deltans are well represented”. He noted with a sense of gratitude and happiness what he termed as Omaruayes “humility” in his endeavors on behalf of the people. “Today”, he said “is a great day and it marks the beginning of good things to come! Mr Peters you have my support, all Apga candidates have my support!”, assuring Omaruaye that Sapele would be delivered for the ‘Ogboru progressive campaign’ under the APGA shield.
Mr. Omaruaye thanked SP Omovudu for the warm reception afforded him and his campaign team. He assured him of his preparedness to represent the Urhobos at the ‘red chambers’ after the 2023 general elections.
On specifics, the issue of the moribund Sapele port was front and center. Omaruay assured his host that revamping the Sapele port and bringing it back to its glory days would be a primary task of his office once elected. Concurrently, ‘skills acquisitions’ would be spearheaded as a means of regenerating several moribund industries, such as the famed ‘wood working’ shops that made Sapele one of the industrial hearts of colonial Nigeria. An industry with a stronger relevance today for Nigeria’s drive towards ‘home driven’ industrial production.
OMARUAYE MEETS WITH URHOBO DEMOCRATIC FRONT (UDF):
Later in the day, the candidate met with the ‘Urhobo Democratic Front’ (UDF), a group with an Urhobo progressive agenda, and members drawn from across the political spectrum in Urhobo land.
Speaking to the membership of the UDF during the visit at the Love Hotel on Isoko road, Ughelli, the Chairman of the group, Dr. Afred accompanied by Chief Dr. Martin Ohwevwo, assured Omaruaye of their support.
In responding, Omaruaye emphasized that meeting with the group was an imperative, given it’s deep interconnectedness with the diverse political spectrum of Urhobo land. He described the ‘UDF’ as a bridge between the leadership of the Urhobos and the women and youths. As a result, they have a “key role to play in the forth coming elections”.
