Nosakhare Agbonigiarhuoyi

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has charged the newly inaugurated Commissioners in the state on high performance culture and values in their service, in order to consolidate on the ongoing reforms in the state, towards the realization of the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) agenda.

The Governor gave this charge on Monday June 19, 2023, during the onboarding programme for the new Commissioners, which had as its theme, “Finishing Strong”, held at the ICTA Conference Hall, JOOPSA, in Benin City.

The orientation exercise is aimed at aligning the new appointees with the programmes and reforms of the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration, in order to equip them with the requisite knowledge and tools to facilitate the realization of the MEGA Agenda.

Obaseki, while harping on the giant strides of his administration, charged the Commissioners to be focused and keep their eyes on the ball, considering that a lot more needs to be done.

According to Obaseki, “The expectations are very high, and you do not have to worry. What you just need to do is to make sure you stay on top of the issues; you understand what we are trying to do. So avoid a lot of small side talks that will not add value or benefit. Keep your eyes on the ball”.

Harping on the need for effective communication, high-performance culture and values as a prerequisite for effective service delivery in the state, Obaseki said: “In the process of the reforms, one key tool is communication. We have made significant progress. We need to communicate that progress”.

“The other point I want to talk about is; how do we ensure that we create a high-performance civil service, to make sure that we are able to use the limited resources we have to do so much more? And it is not very difficult. It is just about accountability”.

“The last is about our values. We cannot continue the old way. People must just understand that the new values call for diligent and effective service.”

Also present at the event was the State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy, Projects, Policy and Performance Management, Mrs. Sarah Ajose-Adeogun; State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemhi; Permanent Secretaries of various MDAs, amongst others.
