Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to resist any further attempts by the police to abduct their members in Edo State.

This stance follows a viral video showing a perceived party member being forcibly taken on Tuesday in the Ikpoba area of Benin City, though the attempt was foiled by onlookers.

During a press conference at the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba stated that, despite the party’s complaints to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), harassment and abductions of opposition members have persisted in the state.

Expressing confidence in the party’s victory, Ologunagba asserted that security agencies must not attempt to manipulate the process in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but should ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

He alleged that the APC has militarized the process but emphasized that the PDP will not be deterred, as the majority of Edo voters support its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

Ologunagba called on the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to be swayed by the APC and to avoid being pitted against the people.

He warned against issuing result sheets to APC operatives before Election Day, stating that all sheets distributed for the election must be countersigned on Election Day for proper authentication. (Nigerian Tribune)
