…Youth And Sports Commissioner Congratulates Team, Promises Rousing Reception In Lafia

The Nasarawa State Deaf Football Team on Saturday, 29th November, 2025, defended the National Deaf Football Championship title after beating their Kaduna State counterparts by 1-0 in a fiercely contested affair at the New Jos International Stadium, Jos, Plateau State.

Chinonye Uchechi scored the only goal of the encounter, ensuring Nasarawa State bravely defended the trophy they won in 2018 in Abuja, the last time the championship was held.

En route to the final of the 2025 edition of the tournament, the Coach Jafaru Umar-tutored Team Nasarawa State had beaten Adamawa, Kebbi, Niger, and Plateau(hosts) States respectively.

The tournament which featured ten States, including Nasarawa, Rivers, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, hosts, Plateau, Adamawa, Bauchi, and FCT, Abuja, began on 19th November, 2025, across various centres in Jos, Plateau State.

Nasarawa State has won three out of the six editions of the tournament.

Secretary of the Nasarawa State Special Sports, Ms Patricia David Oshuwayine, represented the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development at the tournament.

In the meantime, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the State Deaf Football Team following their historic victory at the 6th edition of the National Deaf Football Championship held in Jos, Plateau State.

Kwanta said, “Few weeks ago, I met with the team members at their closed camp in Lafia, prior to the tournament’s kick-off, and boosted their morale to go all out and make Governor Abdullahi Sule and State proud by winning the tournament in Jos, and that I would present them to the Governor.

“Today, Governor Abdullahi Sule and the entire State are proud of the team’s outstanding performance.

“Our gallant athletes competed against top teams from across the country, and ultimately emerged victorious, which is the mark of a true champion.

“We promise the latest National Champions a rousing reception in Lafia, the State Capital”, the Commissioner disclosed.
