A group known as the Owan Conscience Group has launched a major grassroots sensitization campaign against Senator Adams Oshiomhole over his reported interest in a second term in the Senate.
The group claims that the Edo North senatorial seat is rightfully due to Owan West, arguing that during the last senatorial elections, Senator Oshiomhole of the APC disregarded the interests of the Owan people and returned the seat to Estako, leaving Owan West and Akoko Edo without strong leadership representation in the Senate.
Speaking at a press briefing in Benin City, Barr Ofeimu, the leader of the group and a member of the APC from Owan West, accused Senator Oshiomhole and the APC of uneven distribution of political offices in Edo North, noting that the rotational dynamics historically observed in the region have been ignored.
The group also criticized Senator Oshiomhole’s tenure in the Senate so far, arguing that there has been no tangible contribution to the development of Edo North. While Oshiomhole has focused on national issues, there are no meaningful projects executed back home, particularly in Owan West and Owan East, where constituents struggle to identify any senatorial initiatives that directly benefit their communities.
Hon. Daniel Asekhame, a two-term former Local Government Chairman of Owan West and a respected ADC leader known for standing up for justice, was invited as a guest to the press conference in Benin City. He emphasized that Senator Oshiomhole’s ambition for a second term is unacceptable to the Owan people, as he is using their turn in the rotational arrangement to further his political career without addressing local needs.
“The people of Owan and Akoko Edo have been marginalized. The senatorial seat has been held captive in Estako without a clear plan to return it to its rightful zone,” Hon. Asekhame said.
Additionally, Barr Kekere, a tactical lawyer, urged Owan and Akoko Edo leaders to present viable candidates for the senatorial seat, arguing that advocacy alone is insufficient to reclaim the position.

The Owan Conscience Group’s campaign seeks to educate the electorate in Owan West and Akoko Edo about what it considers political injustice, encouraging voters to resist supporting any candidate from Estako in the upcoming senatorial elections.
