Earlier today February 6 2026, Emmanuel Orjih and Lawyers for Civil Liberty filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja against the President of Nigeria and the National Assembly, challenging the legality of Nigeria’s new tax regime.
The core issue is documentary and constitutional: the harmonised bill passed by the National Assembly does not correspond with the document assented to by the President, gazetted, and currently being enforced.
The regime is already operational, with taxes being collected.
The case raises fundamental questions about legislative integrity, executive assent, and the rule of law in fiscal governance.
The matter is live before the Court.
