Dele Farotimi, a Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate, claims that former President Goodluck Jonathan lacked the political courage to challenge Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.

In an interview with Edmund Obilo, Farotimi criticized Jonathan’s decision to concede, stating it contradicted traditional African political values.

He remarked, “Jonathan didn’t find the courage to stand against Buhari. He walked away. This is not typical in Africa. Would you see Obasanjo just walk away? It had to be Jonathan, the first Nigerian leader unable to secure his own election results.”

Farotimi rejected the notion that Jonathan’s concession represented peaceful leadership. Instead, he argued it illustrated Jonathan’s inherent character, stemming from his initial entry into politics, which was driven more by a lack of ambition and less by a desire to challenge those in power.
