Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have dismantled an ISWAP roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles seized by the terrorists.

The operation, carried out by Sector 2 troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion on June 24, 2026, formed part of the military’s ongoing offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the North-East.

According to the military, troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected the insurgents blocking the highway through surveillance cameras. A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately deployed to the area, where it engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle after pursuing them towards the Mangari–Dora axis.

The terrorists were forced to retreat under sustained military pressure, allowing the troops to rescue 53 civilians who had been held hostage and recover eight vehicles intercepted by the insurgents.

Following the successful operation, troops conducted a clearance patrol along the terrorists’ withdrawal route and dominated the area to prevent further attacks. No additional contact with the fleeing insurgents was reported.

All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other properties were safely evacuated to Buratai town. The victims are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.

The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, urging residents across the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information on suspicious activities.

The military added that security has remained stable in the area, with troops maintaining an aggressive operational posture to deny terrorists freedom of movement.
