Barrister Hashim Abdullahi has regained his freedom after spending 21 days in the custody of kidnappers who abducted him while travelling to Sokoto State.
The lawyer was reportedly released on Saturday after his family and supporters allegedly paid an undisclosed ransom to secure his freedom, although authorities have not confirmed the claim.
Abdullahi was kidnapped while returning to Sokoto after attending a meeting of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) in Kano.
Confirming his release, the immediate past President of MULAN, Barrister Saidu Muhammad Tuduwada, expressed gratitude for the safe return of the legal practitioner.
“Yes, it is true that he has just been released by his captives,” Tuduwada said.
“We thank Allah for His mercy, and we sincerely appreciate everyone for your prayers, support, and concern during this difficult period,” he added.
Before his release, the abductors had reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million but later reduced the amount to N10 million, giving the family a 48-hour deadline to comply.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the lawyer’s release remained unclear, while security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
