President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the January 2027 general elections, appointing former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.
The composition of the council was announced on Saturday in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
President Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will be vice chairman. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is also designated as vice chairman.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State will serve as secretary, with APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman appointed deputy and assistant secretaries respectively.
The campaign council will be supported by a team of senior advisers comprising former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; veteran journalist and politician, Chief Segun Osoba; Senator Rochas Okorocha; former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, have been appointed deputy director-generals for the southern and northern zones.
They will work alongside Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, in the two zones.
For mobilisation, Senator Adams Oshiomhole will serve as deputy director-general, while the President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration in the same capacity.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as deputy director-general in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Faleke will coordinate the zonal directors, including Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.
The election planning directorate will have Ms Stella Okotete, Engineer Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori as secretaries.
The legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala serving as deputies. Other members include Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.
The campaign’s media and strategic communication structure will be coordinated by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi.
He will work with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu in the directorate.
Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka have been appointed coordinating deputy directors, while Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Frederick Nwabufor will serve as coordinating secretaries.
Segun Dada will return as Director of New Media, a position he occupied during the 2022/2023 campaign, while Solomon Arowolo will serve as secretary of the New Media directorate.
The council also named five spokespersons, led by Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
President Tinubu charged members of the council to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections.
He also urged leaders of the various directorates to engage other party members who may not have been formally listed, stressing the importance of broad-based participation in the campaign.
According to the President, the APC would enter the campaign season on the strength of what his administration considers its achievements in office.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” Tinubu said.
He added that Nigeria was “out of the dark tunnel” and approaching the benefits of a prosperous economy, urging campaign council members to showcase the administration’s record and inspire hope among Nigerians.
“Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards,” the President said.
The unveiling of the campaign council marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the party expected to intensify its nationwide mobilisation and campaign activities in the months ahead.
