Legendary country music singer Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.

Late Dolly Parton

“Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience,” her team says in a statement issued this Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026.

The country legend sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and wrote over 3,000 songs in a career that spanned six decades.

Parton died just a year after her husband, Carl Dean.

The singer was famously private about her personal life, but last year she announced that her husband Carl Dean, who was rarely seen with her in public, had died aged 82.

Describing her long marriage, she said they spent “many wonderful years” they spent together, adding: “Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years.”

The 9-5 singer met Dean outside a laundromat on the first day she arrived in Nashville as an 18-year-old aspiring singer, and two years later they were married, in 1966.

They did not have children, but shared a large and close-knit extended family. ( Culled from a BBC report)
