The Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially presented its candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling the party’s readiness to commence an aggressive grassroots campaign across the state.
The presentation, held in Benin City, attracted party stakeholders, political leaders, supporters, well-wishers and members of the media, with the gathering marked by celebrations and expressions of support for the party’s candidates.
The NDC presented three senatorial candidates and eight candidates for the House of Representatives across various constituencies in Edo State.
The senatorial candidates are John Yakubu for Edo Central; Oisamoje Maria Evuarherhe for Edo North; and Epelle-Asemota Bridgette for Edo South.
For the House of Representatives, the party presented Ernest Michael for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde; Aiguobarueghian Charity Iguodala for Ovia North East/Ovia South West; Erhuanga Grant for Owan Federal Constituency; and Obaro Rasak for Akoko-Edo.

The official presentation was led by the Edo State NDC Chairman, Engr. David Olukoga, who said the selection and confirmation of the candidates followed democratic principles, constitutional provisions and the party’s internal guidelines.
According to the State Publicity Secretary, Azeez Obogeh, the chairman further confirmed that the candidates’ names and credentials had been ratified, verified and uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
The development, the party said, provides institutional backing for the candidates and strengthens the legitimacy of the NDC’s National Assembly tickets ahead of the elections.
The three zonal caucus leaders — Dr. Sylva Afe Oshiokpekai, Edo North Caucus Leader; Bishop Isaac Idahosa, Edo South Caucus Leader; and Chief Peter Ojeman, Edo Central Caucus Leader — were also present at the event.
The caucus leaders congratulated the candidates and charged them to take the party’s message to the electorate while working to secure victory in their respective constituencies.
Olukoga, while congratulating the newly presented flagbearers, urged them to immediately move beyond the celebrations and commence intensive mobilisation across the state.
He directed the candidates to embark on structured campaigns covering polling units, electoral wards and local government areas, stressing the need for sustained engagement with voters.
The chairman also charged the candidates to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of the NDC by demonstrating integrity, competence and commitment to public service.
The party leadership equally called on members, support groups and other stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation and promote the NDC’s manifesto ahead of the elections.
It urged supporters to work towards building a strong voting bloc for the party and mobilise support for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as well as all NDC candidates contesting elective positions across Edo State.
The party said the presentation of the candidates marked another significant step in its preparations for the 2027 elections and demonstrated its determination to build a coordinated campaign structure across the state.
The statement was signed by Azeez Obogeh, State Publicity Secretary, NDC, Edo State, on August 26, 2026.
