NBC REVOKES BROADCAST LICENSES OF AIT, RAYPOWER, SILVERBIRD, RYTHM FM, 48 OTHERS

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has revoked the broadcast licences of Silverbird TV, AIT, Raypower FM, Rhythm FM and others.

The NBC also revoked the broadcast licenses of some state owned broadcast Organizations.

The stations were owing the Commission N2.6 billion since 2015.

The debtor-stations include; Africa Independent Television (AIT) and its sister radio station, Raypower FM; Silverbird Television, and 49 other stations across the country.

According to The Network, the NBC decided to withdraw the licenses of the affected broadcast organizations for failing to renew their licenses.

As a result, the Director General of the NBC, Balarabe Shehu, has directed State offices of the NBC to liaise with the security agencies to ensure immediate shut down of the operations of the affected broadcast houses within 24 hours of the announcement.

Meanwhile, the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria has promised to engage the NBC with a view to resolving the issue.
