A Fire truck at burning WAEC office in Lagos . . . Wednesday morning

Pandemonium broke out in the early hours of today, Wednesday, October 26, 2022, as fire gutted the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) building in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

A Vanguard report said that several people were trapped in the building as the fire raged.

said that the fire started at about 6:50 a.m., adding: “The fire had broken out at the middle of the high-rise building as those trapped in the building were seen frantically calling for help.”

Latest reports however indicate that the fire has been put off and rescue operations are ongoing.

“The situation has been put under control. Evacuation operation still ongoing,” the paper said in an update.

“It was learnt that the fire outbreak was caused by power surge in one of the offices and spread rapidly,” it further said.
