The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has assured families and dependents of victims of the Afriland Towers fire of the prompt payment of benefits and claims.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Emmanuel Ulayi, Media Officer of the Fund, and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
It would be recalled that the Afriland Towers fire, which occurred on Sept. 16, claimed ten lives, four employees of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and six of United Capital PLC, while several others sustained injuries.
The Managing Director of NSITF, Mr Olúwaṣeun Faleye, who led the management team on a condolence visit to FIRS, United Capital PLC, and families of the deceased in Lagos, pledged.
Faleye, represented by Mr Abdullateef Musa, General Manager, Compliance, expressed the Fund’s deep sympathy to the affected organisations and bereaved families.
“We stand with you in this difficult time and assure that all benefits due to the dependents of the deceased workers will be promptly processed,” Faleye said.
He described the incident as a painful loss to both organisations and the wider community of workers, while praying for the repose of the souls of the departed.
Faleye further emphasised the need for strict adherence to building safety standards and compliance with the Employees’ Compensation Act.
Responding, Mr Ugwuoke Innocent, Assistant Director at FIRS, appreciated the Fund for its compassion and quick intervention, commending the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) for providing a safety net during emergencies.
He also called for increased sensitisation to help employers and employees better understand the benefits of the scheme.
Similarly, during a visit to United Capital PLC, the company’s Director of Human Resources, Mrs Oluseye Komolafe, commended the NSITF for its efficiency and quality service delivery.
