The outgoing Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Abdullahi Candido, has advised the chairmanship aspirants to share ideas and work closely with the chairman-elect, Mr Christopher Zakka.
Candido gave the advice on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with the chairman-elect, various political parties’ candidates and the council’s 2022 Transition Committee.
He said that the objective of the meeting was to congratulate all the candidates who participated in the Feb. 12 AMAC election.
“Let me also appreciate all of you for having confidence in us since we put this transition committee in place December, 2021.
“I must tell you that we are honoured because this is a new ideas and not easily embraced.
“And because AMAC, unlike every other council, should be a model for others to emulate, we are supposed to set the pace all the time,” he said.
The chairman said that before the election, the body called all members to see the council as their own because they are major stakeholders in AMAC politics.
“You all that contested may have your blueprints, mission and vision statements, what can you add to support the incoming chairman.
“It is all our desire that AMAC gets stronger and we need this institution which is greater than anybody or any party to grow from strength to strength.
“The end result should be that the people of this area council enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.
Mr Ibrahim Tanko, Chairman, 2022 AMAC Transition Committee, appreciated the chairman-elect and other candidates for the cordial working relationship with the committee.
Tanko said that the committee was dedicated to ensure a smooth transition to the incoming administration.
Zakka appreciated the Candido-led administration for constituting the committee to harmonise ideas and visions together.
He also called on other candidates to support his administration as he was committed to operating an open-door policy to move the area council forward.
He added that his administration would focus on taking basic amenities to the people at the grassroots as it was a privilege to be called to serve.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Zakka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Feb. 12 AMAC chairmanship election.
He polled 19,302 votes to defeat Mr Murtala Usman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that scored 13,240 votes.
