Be Ready To Make Sacrifices – Defence Minister Tasks Promoted Officers

The Minister of Defence, Retired Major General Bashir has tasked the promoted senior officers of the Nigerian Army to be ready to make necessary sacrifices in the discharge of their duties.

The Minister who was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Kana congratulated the 51 Brigadier Generals promoted to the rank of Major Generals at the Decoration ceremony held at the Command Officer’s Mess in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

While rejoicing with them on the new heights attained on behalf of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, General Magashi emphasized that their elevation calls for even greater sacrifices regardless of how daunting the task ahead of them may be.

General Magashi pointed out that the officers have been found worthy of promotion to the elite rank in the Nigerian Army; “It is therefore time for them to redouble their efforts and be ready to tackle the security challenges facing the nation.”

He further reminded the officers that the task of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria is a collective task and not an individual one, urging them to be exemplary to their subordinates.

“Let me emphasize the need for you to support, sacrifice and be steadfast in tackling the myriad of security challenges bedevilling our dear country Nigeria. We must all come together to proffer workable solutions which you’ve always done to the prevailing security threats particularly at the forthcoming General election

“I, therefore, employ you to remind apolitical towards ensuring a peaceful, free and fair general election in 2023. You should also bear in mind that the business of soldering is not an individual task but a collective responsibility, I call in you to give maximum support to the Chief of Army Staff, and also mentor and encourage younger colleagues to embibe your positive attitude and commitment to work.”

According to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, a lot more is expected from the Generals including good inputs that would move the Nigerian Army forward.

General Yahaya who pointed out that promotion is a result of royalty, discipline, dedication to service and other virtues, urged the officers to act and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects their new rank.

The COAS categorically stated that the Armed forces of Nigeria will prevail over all the enemies of the state and directed the officers not to relent in their efforts as he expresses confidence in their ability and capability to deliver in the assigned task.

“You are aware of our security situation, we are improving indeed and the results speak for themselves, though we are not there yet we will get there by the grace of God. So a lot more is expected from all of us, particularly the Generals that will command our formations and units and head our departs and establishments.“

While giving the vote of thanks on behalf of the promoted Generals, Major General Adeleke Ayenuga, expressed appreciation to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and assured the Army Chief of their absolute dedication to duty.
