“….A severe contest between intelligence, which presses forward, and an unworthy, timid ignorance obstructing our progress” -The Economist motto
The Citizens Advocacy for Social & Economic Rights (CASER) has condemned the Cyber Attack on Food Avail Zoom Meeting which led to its abruptly ending its Zoom Meeting on Saturday 15 owing to persistent massive cyber attacks.
In a press statement on June 15, 2024, titled, “CASER Press Statement on the Cyber Attack on Food Avail Zoom Meeting”, CASER’s Executive Director, Frank Tietie, a Development Lawyer and Convener, Food Avail Nigeria said those who thrive in fear mongering and delight in the mass ignorance of the population have chosen to stifle the voices of reason, science and facts.
“The Citizens Advocacy for Social & Economic Rights (CASER) regrets to announce that it had to abruptly end its Food Avail Nigeria Zoom Meeting on Saturday 15 owing to persistent massive cyber attacks.
“Considering the level of misinformation and fake news about GMOs, we chose a more direct approach to engage the associated issues and let mass number of persons in the social media have the opportunity to hear experts speak on the subject matter.
“Clearly, those who thrive in fear mongering and delight in the mass ignorance of the population have chosen to stifle the voices of reason, science and facts.
“We are however undaunted and have resolved not to leave the social media space to the crude domination of conspiracy theorists who profit from the sensationalism and castigation of what is beneficial to all mankind.
“We are committed to promoting fact-based information and scientific knowledge according to national and international laws which ensure the safety and benefits of biotechnology products which include genetically modified foods.
“Therefore the Food Avail Nigeria meeting shall still hold after further necessary cyber security systems have been put in place.
“The Food Avail Nigeria team is grateful to all those who joined the meeting in good faith and hope they would find to join again at the next meeting.
“We apologise to all who couldn’t join.
“Progress will prevail!
