China on Monday unveiled its first locally-made large passenger jet, in a bid to compete with global commercial aviation giants, Airbus and Boeing.

The aircraft is a C919 — a twin-engine, narrow-body plane seating up to 174 people, CNN reports.

According to reports, “the C919 project marks China’s return to the business of making large passenger jetliners, after a failed attempt in the 1980s.”
