The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned newly constructed accommodation blocks for soldiers at the 6 Division, Port Harcourt, as part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to improve personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Friday, the COAS said the provision of decent, secure and conducive accommodation for troops and their families remains a key priority under the Army’s Soldier First initiative.

He noted that improved living conditions play a vital role in boosting the morale of personnel, enhancing operational readiness and strengthening administrative efficiency, all of which are essential to the effective discharge of the Army’s constitutional responsibilities.

Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed that soldiers who are well-motivated and adequately cared for are better equipped to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and respond to evolving security threats. He added that sustained investment in troops’ welfare is fundamental to building a more professional, resilient and combat-ready Nigerian Army.

The Army Chief also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support and provision of resources towards improving personnel welfare and enhancing the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army.

The commissioning of the accommodation blocks is part of the Army’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel while strengthening its ability to meet national security obligations.
