Eight Rescued as Police, Army Foil Kidnappers’ Attack on Benin-Bound Bus in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of eight passengers abducted by gunmen along the Okene–Auchi Road on Friday.

The victims were among 12 occupants of a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Big Joe Ventures Ltd, which was attacked while en route from Abuja to Benin City, Edo State.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, said the rescue operation was carried out jointly by the police, the army, and local vigilantes.

“Immediately after the incident, the DPO Okene Division, CSP Nasir Muhammad, mobilised operatives alongside the military and vigilantes in pursuit of the kidnappers.

“In the process, eight victims, including the driver, were rescued,” Aya explained in a statement.

He added that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining four victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

On Saturday, a newly called to bar lawyer identified as Onyesom Peace Udoka, was abducted by gunmen in Kogi State.

It was learnt that the lawyer went missing on her way from Abuja to Benin, Edo State around 12 pm on Saturday.

She was reportedly kidnapped alongside her sister.

Udoka was reportedly abducted by gunmen around Lokoja axis of Kogi State.

There are unconfirmed reports that there were other new lawyers returning from the last call to bar ceremony who are victims of the abduction of September 25, 2025. (THE NETWORK)
