ABUJA — The Federal Road Safety Corps FCT Special Marshals held the May edition of their monthly National Patrol Exercise on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with operations anchored in the Gwarimpa axis of the Federal Capital Territory.
The exercise was jointly sponsored by Gwarimpa Unit Command RS7.115, Karu Unit Command RS7.116, and Nyanya Command RS7.13. It brought together senior FRSC officers, regular and hundreds of Special Marshals from across the FCT.
The patrol was aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, raising road safety awareness, and reaffirming the Special Marshals’ commitment to traffic management and public service. The day’s activities included public enlightenment, free safety checks as well as light enforcement.
National Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Engr. Usman Adaji, led a delegation that included Zonal Coordinator for RS7, Comrade Sanni Adisa.
Newly appointed Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, attended alongside Unit Commanders from Nyanya, Karu, and Gwarimpa. Also present were FCT State Coordinator John De Beloved Anaga, members of the FCT State Executive Council and Unit Coordinators, from various units.
The event opened with a ceremonial parade inspected by Sector Commander, CC Tijjani Iliyasu.
In his goodwill message, the Sector Commander commended the Special Marshals for their commitment and sacrifice in promoting road safety in the FCT. He stressed that building cordial relations with the public is key to achieving the Corps’ goals, noting that enforcement is only one part of the mandate. Since assuming office, he said, he has introduced measures to improve operational efficiency and the Corps’ image across the FCT and beyond and called one the Special Marshals to key effectively into the vision.
Describing the FCT as a “melting pot” and host to people from around the world, Iliyasu said the FCT Command must operate to globally recognized standards. He also announced an extension of daily FRSC operations to 7 p.m. to increase visibility and impact in the capital.
In a separate interview during the event, Engr. Usman Adaji said the large turnout of both Special and Regular Marshals reflected the strong working relationship between the two groups. He commended the FRSC High Command for consistently carrying Special Marshals along and praised the dedication of the men and women in the Corps.
To the Special Marshals, Adaji urged continued loyalty and sacrifice, adding that discipline would remain the watchword.
FCT State Coordinator SM John Ananga also addressed members, urging them to remain steadfast, disciplined, and proactive in protecting motorists and improving road safety across the FCT. He pledged the continued support of the FCT Special Marshals and described the Corps as “one big family committed to serving humanity.”
