Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has praised the legacies of late Chief Charles Erefamokuma, father of the member representing Brass Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly, Charles Daniel.
Speaking at the funeral service on Friday in honour of late Erefamokuma at Twon-Brass, Governor Diri said the deceased worked for the success of his family and community.
He noted that the progress of his children as well as the crowd at his funeral were testimonials of the worthy legacies he bequeathed.
The governor lauded Erefamokuma for training his children to be responsible members of society and urged parents to emulate him, stressing that well-bred children impact positively on any society.
Describing the death of Chief Erefamokuma as painful, he urged members of his family and community to take solace in his good life.
His words: “There is nobody too old or too young to die. Therefore, at the age of 81, we have lost a father. A man with wisdom that we all have relied on. However, life and death is in the hands of God.
“May I on behalf of our government extend gratitude to the family of late Chief Charles Erefamokuma, a man who has worked very hard for the success of his family and community.
“His good works are speaking for him. That is why we have this crowd here to bid him farewell.
“He brought up his children well. As families and parents, we should emulate him. All of us gathered here should imbibe the qualities of late Charles Erefamokuma.
“For us, we will continue to console you and stand with you. For the fact that God has kept him up to 81 years, we are indeed celebrating his life.”
Governor Diri also paid homage to the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Diette Spiff, and the Twon-Brass Council of Chiefs where he cautioned the people against politics of violence, saying the area needed peace to develop.
He again spoke on efforts by his administration to construct the Nembe-Brass road and assured the people of the area of his determination to make it a reality.
The governor was accompanied by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, some members of the Assembly and the state Executive Council as well as other top government officials.
