The All Progressives Congress (APC) is claiming victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

“APC has won!” a reliable source at the Edo APC Campaign Office told News Express early this Sunday morning, September 22, 2024.

A video clip obtained by News Express shows allies of APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, celebrating, marching and singing joyfully: “He is a miracle working God! He is a miracle working God! He’s the Alpha and Omega, He is a miracle working God . . .”

They profusely thanked God for the victory, announcing that the election has produced “the youngest in coming Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa.”

The text accompanying the video clip reads: “APC members and the Edo people celebrate with the youngest in coming Deputy Governor RT Hon. Dennis Idahosa from INEC office Ikpoba Hill on foot into the State Capital Benin City with joyful songs

“Congratulations to APC members in the state and people of Edo state.”

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the final collation of results of the election till 11:00 a.m. This followed rising tension in the state.

Earlier this morning, Governor Godwin Obaseki and leaders of the PDP Campaign Council had launched separate protests at the INEC Edo Office, alleging that PDP’s Asue Ighodalo won the ballot but that the results were being changed in favour of APC’s Monday Okpebholo.

A tweet by INEC monitored by Crossfire Reports said the electoral monitor will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infractions.
