The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Management, Dr Christiana Atako has tasked members on the need for continuous training to be repositioned for relevant and effective impact for the growth of the country.
Atako was speaking at the at the Maitama Branch 2022 Annu Corporate Dinner in Abuja.
She said that the dinner was put in place to leverage the institute on the need to continue it’s mandate of capacity building aimed at managing the affairs of the nation.
” We will not relent in our efforts in this direction as the nation needs good governance now more than ever before to set this country on a path of progress and development.
” I therefore call on the government at all levels to make concerted effort to deliver the dividend of democracy to the teeming Nigerians.
” H, to achieve this all important and negotiable task in the democracy, it is imperative that those in position of authority and leadership adopt the principle of accountability, transparency, efficiency, effectiveness, fairness equity and probity.
” These are some of the values that Nigeria Institute of Management chapter shares. It is well known that good governance may ameliorate the issues of insurgency, youth restiveness banditary, kidnapping, insecurity and other forms of crime and criminality which has docked the nations developmental stride in recent years.
Atako further urged the business community and government agencies to join hands with the Institute in the onerous task of setting the nation on the path of development and progress.
The Chairman of the occasion, Alh. Mohammed Shehu, said that most problems we face as a country was as a result of managerial skills by people who man the position of authority.
Shehu charged the institute to strive hard in the training of Nigerians especially those in authority for competence and quality leadership.
” What you do over the year from 1961 till date is a service to your father land, nobody can pay you but God Almighty because your main concern is how Nigeria can have competent managers in all activities that you do.
” I can see you have engineers, you have doctors, you have Alhaji and everybody that has over the years been a beneficiaries to the institute and that is a roadmap for a better Nigeria.
” Some of the issues that we face in Nigeria today is if every person that manages a place; at this juncture, the government alone, the private or corporate organisations if we are to pass through your institute I think will make Nigeria a very great country.
” I will call on other Nigerians to endeavour to be members of this institute so that they can be trained in competence and leadership,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Maitama Chapter of the institute, Engr. Abdu-Lawal Zubair, said that to make Nigeria a better place, everyone must contribute toward attaining the desired training and knowledge that would drive the country.
” It is called a corporate dinner with the intention of bringing people and executives with like minds together to interact, network and share ideas in the maintenance and management of a nation where things will work more effectively.
“I know you are here simply because of the value you attach to the Nigeria Institute of management chapter where you can improve your managerial effectively in the organisation.
” And also contributing substantially to your career as an individual in making Nigeria a better place for all where the right thing will be done at the right time, place and material,” he said.
