Mikel Obi, Echiejile and others Set To Retire From Super Eagles, as long as Oliseh remains at the helm of affairs

Senior players in the Super Eagles look set to dump the team.

Top overseas-based professionals such as Mikel Obi, Efe Ambrose, and Elderson Echiejile may soon be saying goodbye to the national team so long as Oliseh remains at the helm of affairs.

The players may not honour further invitations to the national team following the recent retirement from international football of the team’s former captain Vincent Enyeama, a source told the newspaper.

It was gathered that the retirement of Enyeama and the naming of CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa as the team’s new captain did not go down well with some of the national team’s older players.

Those affected believed that Oliseh by his actions did not show them (the players) enough respect and as such are planning a showdown with the former Nigeria midfielder as a show of solidarity with Enyeama.

The source said that was the reason Mikel refused to collect the captain’s band from Musa when the latter was substituted during last Thursday’s international friendly against Congo DR.

“Oliseh had said no player was indispensable but the old players have resolved to back out of the team as long as he remains in charge,” said the source.

“Oliseh too was a rebel in his days and plotted the exit of a player like Rashidi Yekini from the national team,” our source added.

Oliseh has however been warned by soccer followers to ensure that Nigeria do not miss the next Nations Cup finals after missing the last tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
