The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bayelsa State has strengthened its growing influence with the defection of Comrade Doubara Kumokou, popularly known as “Youth Governor,” alongside thousands of his loyal supporters.

Comrade Kumokou, a kinsman of the Bayelsa State Governor, formally announced his decision to join the NDC at the party’s State Secretariat in Yenagoa, which signals a major boost to the party’s grassroots appeal and political structure in the state.

Addressing party faithful and supporters during the event, Comrade Kumokou expressed gratitude to Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the NDC, for his enduring role in shaping the political trajectory of Bayelsa State.

He noted that Dickson’s influence was instrumental in elevating his kinsman to the governorship, an act he said contributed to the upliftment of his family and community.

The “Youth Governor” attributed his defection to what he described as the “credible leadership and consistent performance” of Senator Dickson across various public offices.

According to him, the NDC represents a platform built on integrity, purposeful governance, and people-oriented policies.

“I and my supporters have carefully followed the leadership direction of the NDC and we are convinced that this is the right political family to align with.

We are fully committed to the ideals of the party and will work tirelessly to advance its vision in Bayelsa State,” Kumokou declared.

A statement by Mr. Gabriel Ukuta, New Media Director of the NDC Bayelsa State informed that this defection comes amid a wave of political realignments in the state, with the NDC increasingly positioning itself as a formidable force capable of challenging established political structures.

Receiving the new entrants, Hon. Dauperebo Ikuromo, Chairman of the NDC in Bayelsa state, welcomed comrade Kumokou and his supporters, describing their decision as “timely and strategic.”

He emphasized that their move signals a broader shift in the political consciousness of Bayelsans.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress is fast becoming the heartbeat of Bayelsa politics.

This defection is not just symbolic it reflects the growing trust of the people in our vision and commitment to service,” Ikuromo stated.

He assured the new members of full integration into the party’s structure and reiterated the NDC’s readiness to deliver responsive governance that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

The party’s state chairman further hinted at more high-profile defections and alignments in the coming days, urging party members and supporters to remain steadfast and united as the political momentum continues to build.

According to the statement, the entry of a figure like comrade Kumokou, with a strong grassroots following, could significantly alter political calculations ahead of future elections in the state.

With this latest development, the NDC appears to be consolidating its presence across Bayelsa, signaling a new phase in the state’s evolving political dynamics.
