Nigeria Beat Pharaohs of Egypt in third place match to win its 9th AFCON Bronze Medal

Nigeria’s Super Eagles this Saturday evening, January 17, 2026, beat the Mohammed Salah-led Pharaohs of Egypt in the third-place match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to win their ninth bronze medal in the competition.

Both teams failed to find the find the net – though Nigeria scored two goals cancelled for offside – forcing the match to be decided via penalties.

In the ensuing shootouts, the Super Eagles, who lost on penalties to Morocco in the semi-final, triumphed 4-2 to emerge victorious after goalie Stanley Nwabali saved the kicks of superstars Salah and Oma Marmoush.
