Obidient Movement Denies Rift, Says Decentralised Growth Reflects Peter Obi’s Governance Ideals

The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports suggesting it is experiencing internal divisions, describing such claims as deliberate attempts to misrepresent the evolution of a growing citizen-driven coalition.

In a statement issued on June 17, 2026, the spokesman of the Peter Obi Movement for Reformation (POMR), Ibrahim Umar, said what critics portray as disunity is actually the natural and decentralised growth of a movement built on shared values and a common vision for Nigeria.

According to him, the Obidient Movement is not a conventional political organisation governed by a rigid hierarchy, but a broad-based coalition united by the principles championed by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. These principles, he noted, include accountability, economic development, fairness, transparency, and competent leadership.

Umar explained that while different civic groups and supporters across the country may adopt varying approaches in advancing their causes, they remain committed to the collective goal of building a New Nigeria.

He stressed that the movement’s decentralised structure is one of its greatest strengths, as it prevents any individual or group from exerting undue influence or compromising the aspirations of millions of Nigerians who identify with its ideals.

“The movement belongs to the Nigerian people, not to a select group of politicians,” he said, adding that its mission remains firmly rooted in Peter Obi’s approach to governance and public accountability.

The spokesman further maintained that there is no disagreement within the movement regarding its core objectives, particularly its commitment to ending what he described as transactional politics and promoting a governance system that prioritises the welfare of citizens.

He urged supporters and members of the public to disregard reports of internal cracks, insisting that the movement remains united, focused and determined to pursue socio-economic transformation in Nigeria.

“The Obidient Movement is unified, vigilant and unwavering in its commitment to the socio-economic liberation of Nigeria,” the statement added.
