Yesterday, Thursday 9, 2023, Rev. Fr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido was ordained as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Warri. The ordination took place at the Holy Martyrs of Uganda Minor Seminary, Effurun, Delta State.
Mr. Peters Omaruaye, the APGA Delta Central Senatorial District Candidate was in attendance. He was warmly received by a diverse crowd of worshippers in attendance to celebrate the elevation of The Revd Fr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido.
Revd Fr. Ewherido has held numerous positions within the church before his elevation, some ecumenical. Amongst his lengthy service to the Church, he was a one time assistant Parish Priest of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Effurun (1986-1987), Rector of the Holy Martyr’s of Uganda Minor Seminary in Effurun (1988-1992), Parish Priest of the Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church in Effurun (1992-1994), Residential Priest with Pastoral Duties at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Floral Park, New York (1994-2005), at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Coram, New York (1995-2006), Chaplain at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Stony Brook, NY (1995-2006) and Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart in Abraka, Nigeria (2006-2007).
Peters Omaruaye has had a long relationship with the Ewherido’s. He was instrumental in the election of Pius Ewherido, the late brother of the Bishop, as the Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of Delta State in 2011. He was one of the earlier supporters who financially backed Ewherido’s bid for the Senate seat. Todays elevation of Revd Fr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido is indeed celebrated by Peters Omaruaye.
