ONE DEAD, MANY TRAPPED AS FLOOD SUBMERGES ABUJA ESTATE (VIDEO)

Some residents of Trademore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, have been trapped by flood waters from a heavy rainfall that lasted hours on Friday.

The Estste was submerged by the raging flood  which was attributed to blockage of the natural drainage system and possible violation of the approved plan.

The Director-General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Abbas Idriss, confirmed   in a statement issued by the FEMA spokesperson, Nkechi Isa, that 116 houses were submerged.

He stated however that nobody died in the estate.
The Network investigation revealed that one person has so far died from the flood while several houses, vehicles with other properties worth billions of Naira destroyed.

There are reports that the deceased was a driver of Peugeot 406 with the registration number YLA 681 FS who was swept away by the raging flood on Imo Street within the Estate.

However, four people who were trapped by the flood were lucky as they were rescued.

Desperate home owners and residents of the estate scampered for safety while others struggle to salvage what was left of their property.

Operatives of the major response agencies such as NEMA, Fire Service, FCT FEMA, Red Cross and Federal Ministry of Environment-Flood department were on ground to prevent further deaths.

Trademore Estate has become notorious over the years for flooding, loss of lives and properties.
