Residents of Takakume in Sokoto State’s Goronyo Local Government Area were astonished on Sunday when the gang leader who attacked the town was revealed to be a former neighbor.
In the early hours of Sunday, an armed gang entered the village, but the vigilante fought them in a vicious struggle, killing the gang leader.
“He was the one who spearheaded the attack on the community,” a resident who asked to remain anonymous claimed.
Abdulwahab Goronyo, the Council Chairman, told reporters that the bandits assaulted the community about midnight, killing one person and kidnapping six others.
“Vigilantes in the region pursued the bandits and killed one of them, later recognized as one of the people who used to live in the neighborhood.” He said he lived with his parents.
The chairman went on to say that the same community had been raided by bandits a few days before, and that those kidnapped were still being held captive.
According to a report, the bandits executed the prisoners after their leader was killed during the recent attacks.
“The bandits, however, shot the abductees to death and their bodies were recovered this morning and buried,” the source said.
