Security agents reportedly attempted to arrest the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on arrival in Nigeria from Cairo, Egypt.

This was disclosed by the Media Adviser to the former governor, Muyiwa Adekeye, on social media on Thursday.

Adekeye shared, “Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir @elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El- Rufai declined to follow them without a formal Invitation. They, however, snatched his international passport from an aide.”

Adekeye, however, failed to identify the security agents who attempted to arrest the former governor.

In a short video showing the incident, El-Rufai could be heard saying, “Listen, nobody, not even the President, can tell me I have to do anything,” just a she advised the security agents to write him a letter of invitation if they need his attention.

El-Rufai, a prominent member of the opposition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), had earlier alerted the public that he could be arrested as soon as he set foot in Nigeria.

“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” he told BBC Hausa on Wednesday.
