Dr. John Nwabueze - Tax Ombudsman

By MUHYIDEEN JIMOH

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s Tax Ombudsman.

The appointment aligns with the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025, and supports ongoing reforms in the nation’s tax and revenue system.

Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the appointment on Tuesday in Abuja, stressing the President’s resolve to ensure transparency and fairness in tax administration.

Nwabueze hails from Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta and has extensive professional and public service experience.

He previously served as Managing Partner of a tax advisory firm and as Technical Adviser to key Senate Committees and the Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (Finance) from Walden University, a Master’s degree in Accounting from Strayer University, and Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Mathematics from the University of Jos.

President Tinubu congratulated Nwabueze and expressed confidence in his ability to serve with integrity and professionalism.

The Office of the Tax Ombudsman was established to strengthen trust in tax administration and provide a structured platform for resolving disputes between taxpayers and authorities.

It will handle complaints relating to taxes, levies, regulatory fees, customs duties, and excise matters in line with existing laws.

The office will also protect taxpayers’ rights and ensure fair, impartial, and non-adversarial resolution of disputes. (NAN)
