Troops Arrest Suspected Cultist, Recover Firearm in Benue

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally fabricated pistol and ammunition in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue.

Security sources disclosed on Tuesday that the suspect was apprehended by troops of Sector 1 OPWS at about 7:10 p.m. on June 22 during an operation in the area.

The sources said the suspect was allegedly involved in cult-related activities that have contributed to insecurity within the local government area.

Items recovered from the suspect included one locally fabricated pistol, two cartridges and a bag.

According to the sources, the suspect is currently in custody while preliminary investigations are ongoing to ascertain the extent of his involvement in criminal activities and identify possible accomplices.

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to curb cultism and other forms of criminality in Benue and neighbouring states.

Operation Whirl Stroke has continued to intensify operations across its area of responsibility to maintain peace and enhance security for residents. (Zagazola Makama)
