Troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY) have intensified offensive operations against terrorists and bandit groups across the North-West, recording significant successes, including the killing of two terrorists, the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of eight suspected collaborators and logistics facilitators, and the recovery of 110 rustled cattle.

The operations, carried out between June 27 and 28, 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security across the region.

On June 27, troops of Sector 1, working alongside members of the Vigilante Group, conducted fighting patrols in Giwa and Kaduna North Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. During the operation, they engaged terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles. Following a fierce exchange of gunfire, the terrorists abandoned two motorcycles and fled into nearby bushes.

The troops successfully rescued one kidnapped victim alive but also recovered the body of another victim who had been killed by the fleeing terrorists.

Later that day, Sector 1 troops responded to a terrorist attack on Dariya Village in Giwa Local Government Area, where the attackers had killed one civilian and injured three others before security forces arrived.

The troops immediately pursued the fleeing assailants, intercepted them while they attempted to escape on motorcycles, and neutralized two terrorists during a gun battle.

Recovered from the scene were a motorcycle, ammunition, charms, and other personal effects.

In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspects at Magami in Gusau Local Government Area for allegedly providing medical support to terrorist groups operating in the area.

Similarly, troops of Sector 1 arrested six additional suspects during a fighting patrol around Polewire Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The suspects were apprehended under suspicious circumstances after troops exchanged fire with fleeing terrorists and are currently undergoing investigation.

On June 28, troops of Sector 1, in collaboration with local vigilantes, tracked suspected cattle rustlers in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Acting on intelligence, the troops laid a snap ambush along the rustlers’ suspected escape route in Ungwan Gora bush.

The operation forced the rustlers to abandon 110 stolen cattle and flee. The recovered livestock were subsequently returned to their rightful owners.

The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements to deny them freedom of movement and ensure the protection of lives and property across the North-West.

The task force also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security operations by providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
