Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head and recovered arms and equipment during a series of coordinated operations across Katsina and Zamfara states.

The military said the operations, carried out on July 2, 2026, dealt fresh setbacks to terrorist groups operating in the North-West and reaffirmed the Joint Task Force’s commitment to protecting communities and sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements.

In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on fighting patrol engaged terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area after the fleeing gunmen opened fire on the advancing troops. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat.

Items recovered at the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during a gun battle.

Troops also rescued the District Head of Farin Hawa, Mr. Mubarak Sharin, who was abducted by terrorists during an attack on the community in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

According to the military, the gunmen, riding on several motorcycles, had invaded the village and kidnapped the traditional ruler before troops, supported by other security agencies, launched a pursuit. The security team caught up with the fleeing terrorists, neutralised one of them, disrupted their escape and successfully rescued the district head.

In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled another terrorist attack on their location at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

The military said reinforcements joined the troops during the intense firefight, forcing the attackers to withdraw and abandon weapons and other combat items.

Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack (CamelBak).

Commending the troops and collaborating security agencies, the Joint Task Force praised their courage, professionalism and resilience throughout the operations.

It reiterated its resolve to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups while working closely with local communities to safeguard lives and property across the North-West.
