…Interior Minister praises stability in education sector, says end of prolonged ASUU strikes has restored hope for students
Abuja – The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), urging the new executive to uphold the ideals of student unionism and champion the interests of Nigerian students.
Tunji-Ojo spoke on Tuesday after attending the inauguration of the NANS Executive members at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, where Comrade Akinteye Babtee Babatunde, popularly known as BabTee, was sworn in as the new President of the association.
The minister congratulated the new leadership and commended the peaceful transition that ushered in the BabTee-led administration.
He also used the occasion to highlight what he described as the Federal Government’s achievements in the education sector, particularly the restoration of stability to Nigeria’s academic calendar.
According to Tunji-Ojo, the administration has successfully ended the era of prolonged industrial actions that previously disrupted academic activities in public universities.
He noted that the absence of prolonged strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has brought greater predictability to the education system and renewed hope among Nigerian students.
The Interior Minister expressed optimism that the new NANS leadership would sustain the association’s tradition of constructive engagement under the banner of “Aluta Continua.”
He urged the BabTee-led executive to work towards advancing the welfare and interests of Nigerian students both within the country and in the diaspora, while contributing positively to the continued growth of the nation’s education sector.
