…as millions head to the polls

Millions of United Kingdom citizens are heading to the polls today to cast their votes in the country General election which begins with the Parliamentary elections that culminates in who becomes the Prime Minister; being the leader of the Political Party with the most Members of Parliament (MP).

Forty Six Million (46 m) people are eligible to vote in about 40,000 polling stations in the UK, spread across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with polling stations open until 10pm.

This is the first time Voters ID is required sine the new law was introduced in 2023. It will also be the first UK General election in 5 years.

The last election was in 2019; which gave the Conservative Party a 270 majority MPs, with Boris Johnson becoming the Prime Minister as he was the leader of the Party. Since then, there has been changes to the Party leadership; leading to Liz Truss and current Rishi Sunak, being selected by the Party and leaders, respectively, and Prime Ministers.

Rishi Sunak is the first non white to become Prime Minister in the U.K.; being of an East African parentage; his father from colonial Kenya and mother from Tanzania.

About 650 parliamentary constituencies are being contested in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The polls say Labour is ahead of the Conservatives, but nothing is final until the votes are cast
