…President debunks consensus candidacy of Lawan

Thirteen of the fourteen Northern Governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari today in Abuja in response to earlier media reports that the President had endorsed the fielding of serving Senate  President,  Ahmed Lawan as APC’s consensus Candidate for the 2023 Presidential election.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Northern  Governor’s Forum Chairman and Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Solomon Lalong, said they met with President Buhari and apologised to him for the leakage to the public of their document on power shift to the South before their meeting with him today.

He said the Presodent accepted their apology and told them that he did not have any preferential aspirant and that he did not object to their position but asked that a transparent congress be held to elect a formidable candidate that can win the Presidential election in 2023.

ISSUES ARISING FROM THE APC CONCENSUS CANDIDACY:

* EL Rufai said that there are 14 APC governors from the North but during their meeting today, GYB fought everybody and walked out and refused to follow them to meet the President.

* On getting to the President, the President said he has no Consensus candidate but the governors should agree on one otherwise all the 23 should go for primaries. The President said that he didn’t give Adamu any name.

* The 13 Northern governors insisted that power must go back to the South.

* The National Organising Secretary of APC said nearly all the NWC did not agree with Adamu on Lawan.
