Prophet Isa El-Buba has called on the United States government and Nigerians in the diaspora to intensify advocacy, reconstruction efforts, and political engagement to address killings and displacement in parts of Northern Nigeria.
Speaking February 3 at a Nigeria World Press Conference hosted by Save Nigeria Group USA on the sidelines of IRF Summit 2026 in Washington, D.C., El-Buba said the gathering aimed to present “what is going on in Nigeria, and what Nigeria is asking from the United States.”
He told the audience that Nigeria “is bleeding,” adding that violence which he said began with persecution of Christian communities has also affected “moderate Muslims, particularly the Hausas,” alongside the destruction of settlements in affected regions.
“I have participated in the funerals of several thousand Christians massacred overnight,” El-Buba said, citing incidents in Dogonahawa and Takwa communities in Plateau State where he reported large-scale killings. He described the situation as genocide and said international attention had been limited for years.
The cleric also alleged threats to his life, stating, “I have survived over nine assassination attempts,” and claimed security protection previously assigned to him had been withdrawn during a past administration.
Addressing Nigerians abroad, El-Buba urged coordinated political advocacy, internal political reform, and strategic use of diaspora resources for reconstruction and economic empowerment in affected communities. “Disunity is our enemy. You must coordinate advocacy and engage lawmakers consistently,” he said.
He further called for support for investigative journalism and digital advocacy, warning that “silence is strategic defeat,” while encouraging rebuilding of displaced communities as “resettlement is resistance.”
El-Buba also raised concerns about corruption in humanitarian and political processes, alleging funds were being used to influence international narratives rather than support internally displaced persons. “We must create a transparent structure to defeat corruption,” he said.
During the event, organisers of Save Nigeria Group USA said the conference sought to draw U.S. attention to insecurity and humanitarian conditions in Nigeria, while encouraging diaspora engagement in democratic and relief efforts.
El-Buba concluded by urging sustained international and domestic action, stating that “history will ask what we did when our people were being erased,” as attention remains on security conditions and humanitarian responses in Northern Nigeria. (News Express)
