Ten people have been feared dead after armed bandits attacked the grain market in Guga village, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, on Sunday.

The assailants also set several houses ablaze and rustled an unspecified number of livestock, including cows, goats, and sheep.

Eyewitnesses said the bandits stormed the community in broad daylight and opened fire indiscriminately on traders and residents. They operated unhindered for several hours.

Residents said the victims were buried on Monday morning in Guga village following a mass funeral held in the Gidan Sarkin Noma and Gidan Wawo communities, both located within Bakori LGA.

According to locals, many of the victims were farmers from neighbouring communities, including Gidan Sarkin Noma and Gidan Wawo, who had travelled to the market to sell their produce.

As of the time of filing this report, neither government officials nor the police had issued an official statement on the incident.

A pregnant woman was reportedly among those killed in the attack.

Guga has experienced repeated bandit attacks and kidnappings in recent years, forcing many residents to flee their homes. (Channels TV)
