The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced a 16-man squad for the forthcoming Namibia Tour, where the YellowGreens will compete in both T20 and 50-over Tri-Series tournaments against hosts Namibia and Hong Kong China.
A press statement signed by Mr. Zeal Ibe, NCF’s Media Manager, on June 15, 2026 said the team, which departs Nigeria today, will use the tour as part of its ongoing preparations for future international assignments. The series presents another important opportunity for the YellowGreens to build on recent performances, strengthen team cohesion, and enhance their competitiveness on the global stage.
Captain Sulaimon Runsewe will lead the squad as Nigeria takes on two formidable opponents in what is expected to be a highly competitive contest. The selected team blends experienced internationals with promising emerging talents, providing the technical crew with an opportunity to assess player development, tactical combinations, and squad depth across both formats of the game.
One of the key highlights of the squad announcement is the return of Chima Akachukwu and Miracle Akhigbe to the national team setup. Both players rejoin the YellowGreens after periods away from the side and will be keen to make meaningful contributions as Nigeria seeks a successful outing in Namibia.
The team will be guided during the opening phase of the tour by coaches Leke Oyede and Tamuno John, who will oversee preparations and match operations. They will later be joined in Namibia by the newly appointed Head Coach and High Performance Manager, Stephen Magongo, whose arrival underscores the Federation’s commitment to strengthening the national team structure and advancing player development initiatives.
Supporting the coaching staff are Team Analyst Jamal Okechukwu, Strength and Conditioning Coach Seye Olympio, and Team Physiotherapist Timothy Adesomowo, forming a comprehensive technical team dedicated to optimizing player performance, fitness, and welfare throughout the tour.
The Namibia Tri-Series is regarded by the Federation as a crucial platform for the continued growth and development of the national team. Beyond providing valuable international exposure, the competition will offer players and coaches an opportunity to evaluate progress, refine strategies, and build momentum ahead of future international engagements.
Nigeria will face Namibia and Hong Kong China in both T20 and 50-over matches, with the fixtures expected to test the team’s adaptability, discipline, and resilience under challenging playing conditions.
As the YellowGreens depart for Namibia, the Nigeria Cricket Federation remains confident in the squad’s ability to compete strongly and encourages cricket enthusiasts across the country to rally behind the team as they proudly represent Nigeria on the international stage.
