The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended the deployment of corps members to three local government areas in Kebbi State due to security concerns.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Bala Dabo Kagarko, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area.
According to him, corps members will no longer be posted to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas because of the prevailing security situation.
“For the safety of corps members, we are not posting them to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas of the state again,” Kagarko said.
He also revealed that insecurity prompted the relocation of the state’s orientation camp from Dakingari to a temporary facility in Basura, Jega Local Government Area.
Kagarko expressed concern over the sharp decline in the number of corps members being deployed to Kebbi State, noting that the development is affecting critical sectors, particularly healthcare and education.
“We no longer have doctors to post to state hospitals and there are not enough corps members to deploy to schools and other areas where their services are needed for development,” he said.
The coordinator further disclosed that Kebbi currently receives the lowest number of corps members among all states in the federation.
“Kebbi now has the least number of corps members in the country. Several appeals have been made to the appropriate authorities, but we are yet to receive a response,” he added.
The NYSC’s decision highlights the growing impact of insecurity on public institutions and service delivery in parts of the country, with the scheme increasingly prioritising the safety of corps members in deployment decisions.
