Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri

The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Governor Douye Diri to place the interests of Bayelsans above political considerations and concentrate on policies and programmes capable of driving sustainable development, economic growth, and improved welfare for citizens.

Speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, the Chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, cautioned the Bayelsa State Government against allegedly attempting to lure NDC aspirants with financial inducements aimed at creating disunity within the party.

Ikuromo maintained that no amount of political inducement would derail the NDC from its determination to take over the leadership of the state. He advised the government to channel available resources toward addressing critical developmental challenges rather than engaging in political manoeuvring.

He specifically pointed to the issue of the state’s commissioned but reportedly non-functional gas turbines, describing it as one of several concerns requiring urgent government attention.

Addressing reports of dissatisfaction among some party members, the NDC chairman stated that the party has established an effective grievance resolution mechanism under the leadership of its National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

According to him, the party’s National Executive Council will release the list of candidates for various positions within the timeline prescribed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assuring members that due process would be followed.

Ikuromo also commended Senator Dickson for his leadership during the party’s primary elections nationwide, describing his conduct as exemplary.

He said the former Bayelsa governor demonstrated fairness, wisdom, and political maturity in overseeing the primaries, ensuring that all aspirants were given equal opportunities to participate in the process.

The NDC chairman further praised Dickson’s commitment to youth and women inclusion in the party’s primaries, noting that the initiative aligns with the principles of affirmative action and broader democratic participation.

According to him, encouraging greater participation of women and young people is essential to building a strong, inclusive, and people-oriented political movement.

He, however, called on party members and supporters across Bayelsa State to remain united and focused on the party’s mission of taking over governance in the state, while insisting that the ruling party had failed to meet the expectations of the people.

Ikuromo reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to providing an alternative platform that prioritises development, accountability, and good governance for the people of Bayelsa State.
