The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for enhanced collaboration between federal and state justice institutions to strengthen the rule of law, improve governance, and advance key reforms within Nigeria’s justice system.
The minister made the call on Tuesday while addressing a Joint Meeting of the Body of Attorneys General and the General Council of the Bar, hosted by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.
The meeting brought together Commissioners for Justice and Attorneys General from across the country to deliberate on strategies for balancing public order with constitutional guarantees and deepening adherence to the rule of law.
Speaking at the event, Tunji-Ojo identified the decongestion of correctional facilities, the administration and documentation of foreign nationals, and the standardisation of statutory marriages as critical areas requiring stronger intergovernmental cooperation.
According to him, greater synergy among relevant institutions is necessary to address these challenges effectively and deliver sustainable outcomes for Nigerians.
The minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Interior to working closely with the Body of Attorneys General and other stakeholders in the justice sector to implement meaningful reforms that will strengthen governance and public service delivery.
He noted that the engagement aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is aimed at fostering mutual understanding, resolving jurisdictional concerns, and promoting harmony among different levels of government.
Tunji-Ojo further emphasized that the Ministry of Interior remains dedicated to building a modern, secure, and collaborative governance framework that upholds the rule of law while protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of all citizens.
The meeting underscored the growing importance of cooperation between federal and state institutions in advancing justice sector reforms and enhancing public confidence in governance.
