Operation HADIN KAI has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing counter-terrorism operations following the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam, further strengthening military efforts to dismantle insurgent networks in the North-East.

According to the Joint Task Force (North East), the two surrendered commanders, identified within the terrorist hierarchy as Munzirs, surrendered to troops on July 4, 2026. They arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5 and are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.

Military authorities disclosed that preliminary interrogation indicates the surrendered commanders occupied key leadership positions within the terrorist organisation and possess extensive knowledge of its operational structure, logistics network and command arrangements.

The military said intelligence already obtained from the debriefing has provided valuable insights into the group’s operational tactics, supply chains and support networks. The information is expected to strengthen ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at locating and dismantling remaining terrorist hideouts across the North-East theatre.

Operation HADIN KAI described the development as another major blow to the insurgents, noting that the increasing number of high-profile surrenders reflects the sustained pressure being mounted through coordinated land and air offensives, backed by enhanced intelligence operations.

According to the military, the sustained campaign has continued to restrict the terrorists’ freedom of movement, degrade their fighting capability and weaken their command and control structures, forcing many commanders and fighters to abandon the insurgency and surrender.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the operational momentum until all terrorist elements are either neutralised or compelled to surrender. It added that troops would continue to exploit actionable intelligence, intensify offensive operations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to eliminate the remaining terrorist threats and restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
