The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued one of three students of the Federal University of Lafia who were abducted by gunmen during an attack on a student lodge in Lafia, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining two victims.
The command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the police, the students were kidnapped on Tuesday night at Living Seed Lodge, located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community in Lafia.
The command said the university’s Chief Security Officer alerted the police at about 9:20 p.m., reporting that armed men had stormed the lodge and abducted three students.
Following the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol units, and other security personnel to the area.
The security operatives launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation across the surrounding forest, leading to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.
Police said efforts had been intensified to rescue the two remaining victims and track down those responsible for the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police directed all operational and intelligence units to sustain pressure on the kidnappers until the remaining students are rescued unharmed.
He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and restoring security in the area.
The command appealed to members of the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and support ongoing operations by providing credible information to security agencies.
Residents were further urged to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
