Concerns are mounting over the increasing cases of vehicle theft in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following another reported incident in Abuja, where a car was allegedly stolen during a court wedding ceremony.
Media practitioner Chris K. Nwandu shared the incident, revealing that his nephew’s Toyota Camry was stolen on Thursday while the family attended a court wedding near Lugbe, close to the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters along the Airport Road.
According to Nwandu, the couple returned after the ceremony only to discover that the vehicle had disappeared from where it was parked. The car reportedly contained food and drinks intended for guests invited to the wedding, all of which were taken along with the vehicle.
He said a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera installed at the premises captured the moment the vehicle was driven away, raising hopes that the footage could assist investigators in identifying those responsible.
The incident has since been reported to the Nigeria Police Force, although Nwandu noted that no significant breakthrough had been made at the time of his account.
Expressing concern over the trend, Nwandu claimed that several residents had recently narrated similar experiences of vehicle theft in different parts of the FCT, suggesting that the crime may be on the rise.
He described the development as unfortunate and called attention to the growing security concerns surrounding vehicle theft in Abuja.
The police have yet to issue an official statement on the reported incident.
