Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, will on September 1, 2026 host Ijaw leaders as part of the effort to consolidate the reconciliation process in the Ijaw National Congress (INC).

The event tagged “Mega Unity Reception” is scheduled for the Ijaw House in Yenagoa and will also be attended by the major INC stakeholders.

On May 26, the Bayelsa governor, who is known as Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation, constituted a reconciliation committee chaired by Dr. Mathew Seiyefa, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Other prominent Ijaw leaders on the panel were a former Rivers State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby, a former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Brodrick Bozimo, former INC president, Chief Joshua Fumudoh, National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Dr. Boladei Igali, and King Goddy Idaminabo.

Dr. Kingsley Kuku and Chief Patrick Erasmus headed the secretariat.

A month later, the committee submitted its report after engaging with aggrieved parties and other stakeholders.

The gathering of Ijaw leaders and INC stakeholders aims to reset the ethnic nationality’s foremost socio-cultural organisation and engender greater unity in Ijaw nation.
